Day by day

I for one cannot remember anything. A conversation with me might go like this:
You: Hey Viv, you should come to my party later tonight
Me: Oh okay that sounds fun!
(three minutes pass)
You: So I'll see you later tonight right?
Me: why? what's tonight?

Yup that's my life.  Unbeknownst to many of my friends, family,  and professors I really do try to rememeber these things as best I can. To combat what I like to call "the goldfish syndrome" (memory being like that of a goldfish which I heard they say is very little like 30 seonds or something) anyway, I have two schedule planners/notebooks.

Number one is a Monthly Planner which allows me to see my upcoming month at a glance. Helpful since time moves so fast, days and weeks go by, and before you know it the month is over (and youv'e yet to go to the gym once like you told yourself you would "this month") maybe that's just me.

The little pink planner (2.5"x4.25") was my solution to my slightly bigger red planner (5.5"x3.5) taking up too much space in my bag/purse.  There I jot down daily assignments and reminders for things I have to do. Unfortunatly the red planner I am finding was actually way more functional.  The tiny pink one doesn't have any space for jotting down little notes or making lists.  The red one has the week on one side and whole free page on the other for random things. I miss my red planner.

Links to Love

  • The WSJ does a lovely job at explaining just why Anna Wintour is so important
  • One of my favorite amazing "unknown" street artists, JR, gets profiled in the NYT
  • For those of you that like me love flowers, soon I will be heading over to the Orchid Show, and giving you my full review
  • This seems pretty unnatural, and while I love this type of art, why on a Chanel bag? Blogue reveiws the supercool super French Colette X Chanel collabo

    baby it's cold outside

Mattel Barbie Calendar, Illustrations by Robert Best

When I have nothing to talk about I talk about the weather. Be warned.  Apparently some people are annoyed by this, sorry if you're one of those.   Anyway so it snowed twice this week. Awesome.  I had to pull out my winter coat again.  I am not happy.  On to happier things.  This is the January Illustration of my barbie calendar.  If feels like January all over again.

I love the detail of her blowing out her breath. This little detail is such a characteristic of winter and I love that the illustrator chose to include it.

    Step Into My Office

West Elm Parsons Desk, West Elm curved upholstered chair in steel blue

Ever since I was little, I always wanted to have an office.  Now that I'm older I find it an absolute necessity for any adult.  Even if it's just a corner somewhere it's nice to have a refuge to do research, read, and be productive.  Here I share with you my space in my bedroom. A work in progress.  It is undoubtedly my favorite place in the apt.

Although I admit to totally loving kate spade, I do not work there as opposed to what the objects on my desk would have you belive.   It almost looks like an ad for them.  I do however love their packaging.  Another post on that later.

    we made it.

The forecast at 7pm on Friday

On Friday morning 8.4 million new yorkers walked out of their homes and into the most beautiful day of the year, thus far.  The record high of 77 degrees begged to scream, we made it through the winter!  A beautiful day it was, which lead to an even more beautiful night.  At 7pm I checked the temperature only to see a nice big sun (yes it was still out) and 70 degrees.  So I made this little drawing.

Unfortunately I just checked and while today is the first official day of spring, snow showers are expected this morning.  That's New York for ya.  Make sure to wear your galoshes.

In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb

Mattel Barbie Calendar, Illustrations by Robert Best

I can't believe it's already March!! I feel like two weeks ago I was celebrating the new year. Time really does fly. Especially in your twenties. More on my theory of that later but for now I'd like to share what I get to look at everyday.  My Barbie calendar.  If you're into fashion illustration, barbies, or pretty things to look at this is really a treat. I found it at Barnes & Noble one day when me and the bf fiancĂ©, were lurking around union square along with the all the other creeps in this city.  Anyway it makes me happy and I've never been so happy to turn the page for a new month.  This is this months, it looks awesome against the blue walls in my bedroom.

I really like the angular/assymetrical pose.  It kinda reminds me of portraits of the upper class, like the Anglo Bronzino ones from the 16th century.  The people in those portraits always seemed to be posing in such ways that are very similar to the ways models still pose today in magazines. yup.

Anyway, when I get the time Ill show you guys the January and Febuary pages from the calendar. January was my favorite thus far.
